About us
Our laboratory focuses on large-scale intracellular degradation phenomena occurring in vivo.
Autophagy and the ubiquitin-proteasome system are known as representative intracellular degradation systems, but we have recently discovered a novel organelle degradation mechanism, in which PLAAT, a lipid metabolizing enzyme in the cytosol, selectively degrades damaged organelles (Morishita* [*co-corresponding authors] et al., Nature 2021). Currently, we are challenging the mechanism and physiological relevance of mysterious intracellular degradation phenomena occurring in various organs in vivo, by using our originally constructed in vivo 4D (3-D space + time) screening system, high depth omics technology, genetic modification technology, theoretical biology, model organisms (zebrafish, mice), etc. Our goal is to contribute to the understanding of the pathogenesis of related diseases and the development of new preventive and therapeutic methods.
